The School of Teacher Education in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant/associate professor of Special Education position to start in August of 2025.
We seek a colleague committed to research, mentoring, teaching, and leadership through service. We are interested in applicants who have potential for sustaining an innovative and externally funded program of research focused on the advancement of positive educational and life outcomes for people with disabilities and their families.

The Special Education faculty understand the complex, dynamic, and diverse nature of disability research and value the varied perspectives of multiple stakeholders
The five special education degree programs include:
combined bachelors/masters degree with certification in special education
online Masters in Autism
online Masters in Early Childhood Special Education
Education Specialist
PhD
In addition, the special education program teaches required courses for other teacher certification programs (e.g., Elementary, English, Social Sciences) and doctoral courses taken by all majors in the Curriculum & Instruction PhD program.
The School of Teacher Education strives to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for, our teaching candidates and colleagues. Our goal is to prepare teaching professionals who not only transform the lives of their K–12 students, but also seek to improve their schools, communities, academic disciplines, and professions. The Special Education program at FSU has been successfully training doctoral students for over 60 years.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a team of nationally recognized tenure-track faculty who publish in top-tier journals and run multiple research and training grants. Special Education faculty members share responsibility for programmatic and instructional decisions within and across program options. Faculty maintain a balance between rigorous research and high-quality teaching. We seek a colleague with the ability to create and maintain collegial and harmonious working relationships with others. While we welcome applications from candidates with research interests in a variety of disability-related areas, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in using assistive and/or educational technology to advance positive educational and life outcomes for students with disabilities.
Successful applicants will demonstrate the potential to develop (assistant-level) or a track-record of maintaining (associate-level) a well-developed, systematic line of research, obtain external funding, advise and mentor graduate students, and teach courses across degree-levels and instructional formats (e.g., face to face, online asynchronous).
Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field by August 2025.
A strong record of or potential for
impactful research and scholarly writing
national visibility as a scholar and leader
Experience teaching in a teacher education program
Preferred Qualifications
At least 3 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in K-12 settings
Record of publication and evidence of a systematic program of research in one or more areas pertaining to education of students with disabilities:
Educational Technology
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Influences on Learning
Policy, Advocacy, and Systems Change
Teaching, Teachers, and the Education Workforce
Evidence of effective teaching at the university level
Record of external grant seeking
Evidence of commitment to, and experience in, collaboration and collegiality in the preparation of teachers serving students with disabilities

The roots of FSU’s Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences date back to the university’s establishment, and it is the oldest college of its kind in Florida. Recently expanded in 2023, the College is home to six academic departments united through a common goal to maximize human potential.
