The Associate/Assistant Director, Landmark College Institute for Research and Training (AD), has primary responsibility for coordinating the research activities of our brand new neurocognitive lab; proposing and carrying out research in learning sciences and educational psychology; and creating and delivering evidence-based professional development offerings to educators and other stakeholders. In addition to conducting discovery and applied research, management of the neurocognitive lab will consist of ensuring that the physical space and equipment are properly maintained and used by Landmark College and visiting researchers. Additionally, management responsibilities will consist of securing, training, mentoring and supervising undergraduate research assistants. Delivery of professional development may occur in face-to-face settings or via eLearning platforms. Research initiatives may include studies that seek to improve understanding of neurodiverse students, particularly those with Autism; develop, and validate interventions for serving students who learn differently and/or are struggling in conventional educational environments; and design or evaluate the effectiveness of learning and research technologies (including EEG, fNIRS, educational video games, Virtual Reality, and online education) to improve student outcomes and engagement. All research will be developed in accordance with high standards of quality and rigor to uphold the College’s reputation for excellence in the field of education for individuals who learn differently. The AD will report to the Director of the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training (LCIRT), and will support the Director and the LCIRT team in developing strategic partnerships and joint ventures, pursuing public and private funding opportunities, teaching online courses, identifying and managing clients, and advancing the Institute’s distinctive mission, programs, and services.
This position requires a doctoral degree in a field related to the learning sciences including Special Education, Educational Psychology, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Psychology, with at least 3 – 5 years of experience in research, professional training, and/or consulting at the graduate level or higher. Experience in a lab setting is preferred. The candidate must have a portfolio that demonstrates capacity to pursue grant funding, manage projects, and handle a number of simultaneously competing priorities. Experience should include evidence of developing educational programs and interventions, managing large data sets, analyzing information using a range of quantitative and qualitative measures, summarizing/synthesizing data to identify research findings and recommendations, and communicating information to professional audiences in written, spoken, and presentation formats. Must be able to demonstrate outstanding presentation, communication (written and spoken), and project management skills; be a self-starter; and manage complex, multifaceted programs and initiatives.
The candidate must be able to quickly develop an understanding of Landmark College’s cultural climate and Universal Design pedagogical practices and work closely with Landmark College faculty and staff onsite. Must be willing to travel, work as a contributing member of the LCIRT team, and exhibit flexibility in scheduling beyond standard work hours and days.
Prior extramural funding strongly preferred. A record of publications in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) field is highly desired. Experience with EEG, fNIRS, eye tracking, data mining, machine learning, or advanced statistical methodologies a plus.
