Established in 1967, The Briarwood School in Houston TX is rooted in the belief that children who learn differently have the right to the finest of educations. A school determined to give students who have struggled with learning differences the strategies to make learning attainable, enjoyable and life-changing, Briarwood has established itself as one of the premier schools for students with a broad range of learning differences in the country. Briarwood is a nondenominational K through Grade 12 coed, fully accredited independent day school and is defined by the tenet that every child can learn and has the right to be taught the way he or she learns best. Briarwood serves approximately 350 students from Harris and surrounding counties with an educational staff of 110 professionals in a 100,000 square foot, specially designed building complete with athletic fields on a 9.2-acre parcel of land in west Houston, Texas. In addition, the Tuttle School provides training for students 5-21 with developmental disorders in a wide range of vocational and living skills as well as age-respectful academics. Eighty-five percent of Briarwood graduates attend college. The success of Briarwood’s program is due to the identification of need through educational testing, individualized curriculum and instruction, and the teaching of self-advocacy. In seeking its next Head of School, The Briarwood School is looking for a dynamic leader to serve as head of school starting July 2021. A successful candidate will be an experienced learning difference educational leader devoted to the Briarwood School’s mission, appreciative of its history, and prepared to work closely with the Board of Trustees to secure a vision for the school’s future. The next head of school must be an engaging personality, and a dynamic, innovative, and goal-oriented professional. A servant leader whose example, energy level, enthusiasm, passion, and commitment inspire others will serve as the head of Briarwood while connecting to the broader community, locally and globally.
