Department Summary: The mission of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Bridgewater State University is to prepare teacher candidates for their initial licensure in the fields of elementary education and early childhood education. At the graduate level, we offer a program for classroom practitioners to satisfy the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements for professional licensure at the elementary and early childhood levels. Our graduate programs also prepare experienced educators for positions as consultants and consulting teachers of reading.
Essential Duties: The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education is seeking applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level for the teaching of mathematics education. Responsibilities include teaching mathematics and mathematics methods in undergraduate and graduate courses for early childhood and elementary education. The successful candidate may collaborate on projects, research, and teaching in mathematics, with other teaching opportunities in STEM education. The successful candidate will also supervise student teachers, advise at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and work collaboratively with department faculty members to develop and strengthen the preparation of teacher candidates in the area of mathematics instruction.
Required Qualifications: A Doctorate from an accredited institution in Elementary Education with a focus on mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on mathematics, or Mathematics Education, or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered. A minimum of three years full-time teaching experience in a public-school at the elementary or early childhood level and a public school teaching license are also required.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience teaching mathematics at the elementary or early childhood level. • Experience teaching gifted/talented populations. • Experience with supervision of student teachers. • Evidence of scholarly work. • Experience with the integration of technology in teaching. • A minimum of two years of college teaching.
