We are currently seeking a Researcher that is well versed in technical assistance methods and able to translate research findings to various practitioner and policy audiences at the state, district, and school level. This individual will support projects that provide technical assistance to states and local districts on multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RTI) and specially designed instruction. The position is located in our Washington, D.C. office (Georgetown or Crystal City).
The selected candidate will strengthen AIR's practice in special education research and technical assistance. Tasks may include: • Support a stream of technical assistance work focused on the implementation and scale-up of MTSS/RTI and specially designed instruction across content areas for students with disabilities. • Identify and synthesize research on evidence-based instruction and assessment practices for students with disabilities. • Contribute to product development, including training materials and implementation guides. • Lead onsite and virtual training and coaching activities related to MTSS/RTI throughout the United States. • Work with a diverse team, managing project tasks, technical expertise and supervision of project staff. • Disseminate findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports and presentation of seminars. • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders at multiple levels (school, district, state). • Contribute to proposals and other business development opportunities.
• Ph. D in special education or math/reading education
• At least 2 years of experience teaching students with disabilities and/or students receiving intervention • Expertise in literature on evidence-based instructional strategies for students with disabilities and MTSS/RTI • Experience providing professional development or TA related to reading and math instruction, or behavior intervention, for students with disabilities and assisting states and local districts in scaling up evidence-based practices • Knowledge of federal and state landscape for special education policy and practice and multi-tiered systems of support • Ability to translate research into practice for diverse audiences in both virtual and in-person settings • Project management and leadership experience • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Grant-writing a plus • Experience and/or expertise teaching or working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations a plus • Position will require travel
