Learning Support Teachers are specialized leaders of learning, with responsibility for facilitating successful student access to the ISB curriculum, remediating skill and strategy gaps of students with mild to moderate learning differences and helping students become effective self-advocates.
In terms of leadership, the Learning Support Teacher is responsible for:
Developing a deep, enduring understanding of the ISB curriculum
Implementing our agreed approaches to learning and teaching in line with the mission of our school
Advocating for the needs of students so that the best possible opportunities can be offered to them in building their future
Building strong relationships and communication lines with all stakeholders.
Continually developing and sharing expertise in the area of learning support, differentiated instruction and specific research based remediation
Case managing 15 ? 20 students with learning disabilities, which includes facilitating multidisciplinary teams and parent meetings, writing and implementing Individualized learning plans (ILP) and overall student advocacy
Collaborating through a multidisciplinary team based approach with counselors, OTs and SLTs, teachers, parents, administrators, etc.
Working collaboratively with Head of LS on a coherent school wide support approach
Actively participating in the student study team process In terms of learning and teaching, the Learning Support Teacher is responsible for:
Full-time teaching of students with mild to moderate learning disabilities.
Teaching structure will be a combination of co-taught, small group, in class or individualized instruction depending on student need
Direct teaching of specific interventions (primarily reading, writing, mathematics, executive function related skills, social skills).
Knowing students exceptionally well and supporting them in their development of self-knowledge, self-advocacy and independent learning strategies
Conducting student assessments to inform the instructional process, modify pedagogical practice and/or curriculum planning and review and to track and monitor progress
Using appropriate strategies and tools to regularly record and report on student learning growth (e.g. written reports, ILP meetings, etc.)
Modelling and supporting the integration of assistive technology
Monitoring students identified but not receiving direct services, and for students identified as gifted and talented
Supporting differentiation strategies for all students in planning units
Specific Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have:
Significant expertise and certification in teaching students with learning disabilities
A commitment to the ISB mission and vision, especially in regard to supporting and promoting inclusive practices
Excellent relationships and communication with colleagues, students and parents
An ability and desire to work collaboratively as an active member of a multidisciplinary team
Strong technology literacy ? Flexibility ? as the needs of our students change, the program will adapt to match those needs
Commitment to his or her own professional learning
