LOCATION: Administering District is the Christina School District, but the program is statewide.
PROGRAM: The Autism Program offers comprehensive educational services for students with autism from ages 2-21. The program has a stable funding source. Applied Behavior Analysis is the primary methodology that guides intervention.
Must hold a doctorate in psychology, special education or applied behavior analysis
Five (5) years of experience work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (“ASD”)
Graduate-level training in evidence –based practice in curriculum, instruction, and behavioral support such as ABA instructional strategies
Experience planning or leading skill development in communication and social skill training programs for individuals with ASD
Experience as a consultant to teams and an understanding of basic principles related to performance management
Successful experience leading the development and implementation of an autism services program
Successful experience leading the development and implementation of a structured professional development program and a performance management plan
Successful direction and management of similar autism projects
State of Delaware Certification in Teacher of Students with Autism or Students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities
At least three years’ experience in a supervisory role in an education setting and have experience in program evaluation
Direct experience in working with a broad range of students with autism and their families
Experience in providing professional learning and technical assistance to administrators, teachers, program staff and parents within a coordinated program statewide
Experience in working with a broad range of stakeholders to accomplish goals that have an impact on the education of students with autism
Experience in conducting assessments, including functional behavior assessments, developing and implementing individual behavior support plans, and educational programs that are appropriate, positive, and tailored to the individual needs of the students with autism
Experience in evaluating fidelity of implementation of behavior support plans and educational programs
Must be an innovative leader in the field, keeping abreast of research-based practices and techniques in the education of students with autism
Must have strong communication, organizational, leadership and management skills
Knowledge of applied behavior analysis, child development, as well as language, social, self-help, academic, daily living, community integration, vocational and life skills
Knowledge of various communication systems including Picture Exchange Systems and speech generating devices
Identify, promote, and assist with the implementation of Best Practices (Evidence-based Practices) for the Education of Children with Autism in all approved programs
Demonstrate expertise in principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
Disseminate guidelines as appropriate
Develop and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with stakeholders including parents, staff, district administrators, and Delaware Department of Education staff
Coordinate and maintain the Peer Review committee as defined in Delaware Administrative Code
Coordinate and maintain the Human Rights Committee as defined in the Delaware Administrative Code
Coordinate and maintain the operation of the Statewide Monitoring and Review Board as defined in the Delaware Administrative Code
Manage and supervise a staff to deploy training
Provide technical assistance and coaching to Charter Schools and Districts statewide
Coordinate and maintain the Statewide Parent Advisory Committee as defined in the Delaware Administrative Code
Work with Delaware Autism Program leadership personnel statewide to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive professional development plan for approved programs
Consult, as requested, with all school districts and charter schools in Delaware to increase their capacity to provide effective, accountable, and evidence-based services for children with autism
Direct and manage the Family Support Services program for children with autism
Direct and manage the respite program for children with autism
Provide leadership in statewide professional development pertaining to autism
