The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska Lincoln is searching for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice with expertise in orientation and mobility. This position is non-tenure leading with 12-month appointments renewable annually with potential for promotion in rank to Associate and Full Professor of Practice.
Responsibilities: Develop and teach coursework in orientation and mobility to meet national certification standards. Teach distance classes at the graduate level. Advise graduate students; arrange and supervise practicum and clinical experiences; seek financial supports for personnel preparation; and provide professional outreach and service in the department, college, university and broader community. Although teaching, advising, and supervision will comprise the majority of the workload, collaborative research opportunities are possible.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Special Education or related area with national certification in orientation and mobility and college teaching experience is required. Preferred qualifications include: online teaching experience; evidence of teaching students with visual impairments; and record of grantsmanship, particularly personnel preparation grants.

Current areas of research include: academic interventions (reading, writing, math); learning technologies; behavioral interventions; neuroimaging; infant communication; speech physiology; communication technologies; cochlear implants; amplification and perception; auditory and vestibular physiology; and genetics of inner ear dysfunction. The Department has active research collaborations on campus with the Center for Brain Biology and Behavior, the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools, and the Schmoker Reading Center. Collaborations also exist with Boys Town, Bo...ys Town National Research Hospital, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals, school districts within the region, and a number of national and international institutions and agencies. Lincoln, Nebraska is a vibrant college town of approximately 270,000 that combines the cultural richness of a large university with the affordability of a Midwestern city.
