The School of Education at Saint Louis University is establishing a Diagnostic and Learning Assessment Clinic for Students (DLACS). The overall mission of the DLACS is to provide interdisciplinary training and assessment opportunities for SLU students while serving local private and public school districts, and the SLU community. DLACS will offer high quality psycho-educational assessments for children in under-served communities, decrease the amount of time taken to complete the assessments by using an interdisciplinary team approach, support school districts in meeting the federal 60 day requirement for completion of special education assessments, increase access to independent educational evaluations of children for families in urban areas and those from poverty, reduce due process costs by supporting schools and families as they progress through the special education process, and provide an on-campus site for the assessment of college students who may have a disability.
Under the administrative direction of the Dean, the Clinic Director oversees and leads the special education assessment clinic operations. The position provides outpatient assessment and diagnosis to students serviced in accordance with the organization’s mission and core values; teaches clinical assessment classes at the undergraduate and graduate level; and oversees faculty and student research completed in the special education assessment clinic.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
Knowledge of DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Orders – 5th edition)
Knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and its categories of disability
Technological competence to use computers, electronic recording equipment, and software used by the organization
Oral and written communication skills
Analytical and problem-solving ability

Ph.D. in Special Education or related degree; supplemented with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of special education and as a psychological examiner
